Herbal Teas and Their Benefits

Herbal teas are made up of herbs, spices, and plant materials, soaked in water, unlike many “real” teas, which come from the leaves of a tea bush. What many people don’t realize is that while herbal teas are delicious, they are also extremely beneficial to our brains and bodies.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea has antibacterial effects when you drink it, helping to prevent and heal colds and infections. It also calms the nervous system, calming you down and even allowing you to sleep better. Chamomile even has anti-inflammatory and anti-septic properties that help promote healthy skin and can calm acne and eczema.

Green Tea

Green tea is often shown to improve metabolism, although not all studies agree on this. It’s even been show to improve brain function and people who drink tea tend to have higher activity in the working-memory section of their brains.

Rooibos Tea

Roobios tea’s first benefit is that it’s completely caffeine-free. It’s recommended and helps in patients with insomnia as well as improving mood and heart health. It’s even good for your skin and you can apply the tea directly to the skin to reduce inflammation from acne, sunburns, or other skin conditions.

Ginseng Tea

Ginseng is great for young or teenage girls because it’s been known to reduce menstrual cramps. Ginseng is even a brain stimulant and can help with concentration and cognitive functions. It can even help reduce the effects of erectile disfunction in men.

Echinacea Tea

Echinacea is most commonly used for treating the common cold and even reducing the chances of catching it. It gives your immune system a boost, meaning it can help shorten the length and severity of illnesses and infections like sinusitis, bronchitis, or sore throats. It’s also another one of the teas that is great for skin.

Peppermint Tea

Because peppermint tea contains menthol as one of its main ingredients, it can break a fever by cooling your body on the inside and sweating it out on the outside. It also helps move gas through the body, meaning it can help solve issues with digestion, bloating, or cramping. It can even help in cases of nausea and motion sickness.

Jasmine Tea

Jasmine tea is often made with a base of green tea, both of which have shown to have properties that prevent cancer. The scent of jasmine can be powerfully relaxing, releasing chemicals from a person’s brain that calm and relax them. Jasmine tea can even help with arthritis and joint pain because it helps to reduce the swelling in these areas.
